Microservice/Java Developer (Banking Project, 50K+)

A financial institution is seeking a skilled Microservices/Java Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable, high performance backend systems in Hong Kong.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in distributed systems, API design, cloud‑native development, and modern DevOps practices. You will work closely with product managers, architects, and development teams to deliver resilient and secure services that support business growth.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in core banking project design, develop, test, and maintain microservices-based applications
  • Develop and expose RESTful APIs for various services
  • Work with architects to define service boundaries and integration strategies
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making processes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in distributed environments
  • Coordinate with oversea Developers and DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
  • Document service designs, APIs, and operational runbooks

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 4 years' relevant experience, preferably in Retail Banking or Corporate Banking sectors
  • Strong expertise in microservices architecture and proficiency in Java programming
  • Hands-on experience with API design, including REST and OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Knowledge of containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Redis
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and DevOps tools like Jenkins
  • Knowledge of messaging and event-driven systems, e.g., Kafka
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana and ELK stack
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese
