Data Engineer - Reputed Investment Bank

An investment bank in Hong Kong seeks a Data Engineer to build and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting enterprise analytics and reporting.

Key responsibilities:

As a Data Engineer, you will build data pipelines, manage HDFS data, use SparkSQL/Python and Trino, and support secure, reliable data infrastructure.

• Support delivery of high-quality, reliable data solutions within the transformation team
• Work with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical tasks
• Develop and maintain data pipelines using SparkSQL and Python under guidance
• Manage data storage and organisation in HDFS and perform distributed SQL queries using Trino
• Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and support BI/reporting through efficient transformations
• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and assist in incident handling and root cause analysis
• Contribute to ETL workflows, data models, and infrastructure scalability with mentorship and collaboration

Candidate profile:

To excel in this role, you bring experience in SparkSQL, Python ETL, HDFS, and Trino/Presto, with strong focus on data quality, performance, and collaboration.

• 5+ years’ experience in data engineering or related technical field
• Hands-on experience with SparkSQL and Python for data processing and ETL
• Familiarity with HDFS, distributed file systems, and big data ecosystems
• Experience with Trino/Presto or other distributed SQL engines
• Understanding of ETL, data modelling, pipeline design, and basic English/Mandarin proficiency

Preferred skills

• Experience with Tableau or similar BI tools
• Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Huawei HCS)
• Knowledge of SQL performance tuning
• Familiarity with data governance and data quality
• Exposure to capital markets or trading systems
