A leading organisation in Hong Kong is seeking a Data Governance Specialist for a contract role to support enterprise-wide data quality, governance, and compliance initiatives. You will work cross-functionally to strengthen governance standards and enhance data integrity.

Key responsibilities:

You will support the organisation’s data governance framework by ensuring data quality, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration across business and technology teams.

Data Quality & Monitoring

  • Support data quality checks across policy, claims, and customer datasets by identifying and escalating missing, inconsistent, or duplicate records
  • Assist in monitoring data quality metrics and KPIs to support reporting accuracy and continuous governance improvements

Data Governance Framework Support

  • Support the implementation of data governance policies, standards, and procedures while ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain key governance documentation including data dictionaries, business glossaries, and data lineage records to support consistency and transparency

Metadata & Data Catalog Management

  • Maintain and update the enterprise data catalog while supporting the classification of sensitive, personal, and regulatory-critical information
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and consistent business definitions across teams to strengthen data governance and standardisation

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Support compliance with GDPR, local data privacy regulations, IFRS 17, and other governance requirements by monitoring data access, retention, and usage controls
  • Assist with audit preparation by gathering required data evidence, documentation, and compliance records

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborate with business users, IT teams, and data stewards to investigate and resolve data issues effectively
  • Support data governance forums and working groups while promoting data standards and best practices across departments

Data Issue Management

  • Log, track, and support resolution of data-related incidents, ensuring timely follow-up on remediation actions
  • Assist in root cause analysis under senior guidance to identify issues and support effective corrective measures

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare basic dashboards and reports on data quality and governance metrics to support monitoring and decision-making
  • Maintain up-to-date governance documentation and process guides to ensure consistency and audit readiness

Candidate profile:

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in data governance, reporting, and compliance support, combined with strong collaboration skills and attention to detail within regulated environments.

  • Basic understanding of data governance concepts including data quality, metadata, lineage, and stewardship principles
  • Familiarity with SQL or similar querying tools to investigate and analyse data issues
  • Experience using Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to build reports and support data insights
  • Exposure to data governance or catalog tools such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica (advantageous)
  • Understanding of relational data structures, including tables, fields, and data relationships
  • Proficiency in both Chinese and English for effective cross-functional communication
