Linux Engineer
Your responsibilities will span from routine administration—such as system setup, backup procedures, software deployment, patching cycles, and health assessments—to more strategic functions like advising on architectural decisions for new projects.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive Linux system administration tasks including initial setup, regular backups, software installations, patch upgrades, as well as ongoing system monitoring and health checks to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot complex system issues efficiently while conducting detailed performance tuning to maintain high availability and reliability across all platforms.
- Oversee capacity monitoring for both systems and applications, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks or areas for improvement.
- Provide expert advice and consultancy services to project teams regarding system architecture design, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
- Revise and update technical standard guidelines regularly to ensure full adherence to internal IT audit regulations and best practices.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor for junior system administrators by offering mentorship, guidance, and hands-on support when needed.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless integration of middleware products such as Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere, and MQSeries into existing infrastructure.
- Contribute to distributed system design initiatives by leveraging your experience in cloud or big data architecture where applicable.
- Support urgent production issues outside of standard office hours when required, demonstrating commitment to operational continuity.
- Assist with IT inventory management processes as well as procurement activities including price negotiation, budgeting, and financial management.
Requirements:
- Degree holder in information technology, computer science or related discipline is essential for this position.
- Minimum two years’ experience working with Redhat Linux 7/8 system administration is required to ensure effective management of core systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical infrastructure environments coupled with hands-on experience in system architecture design is highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge of Redhat KVM, Redhat GFS, Redhat Cluster suite as well as middleware products such as Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere, and MQSeries is expected.
- Advanced shell scripting abilities are necessary for automating routine tasks and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Experience in distributed system design and administration would be considered an advantage for candidates looking to broaden their impact.
- Familiarity with system performance monitoring tools along with proven tuning capabilities is important for maintaining service quality.
- Exposure to Lotus Notes is beneficial but not mandatory; willingness to learn new technologies is encouraged.
- Self-motivated attitude combined with readiness to work under pressure during urgent production issues demonstrates reliability.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills are vital; fluency in spoken and written Chinese and English is required while Mandarin proficiency is advantageous.
- Knowledge of cloud or big data architecture design as well as understanding of system security protocols (ISO 20K/ITIL) adds further value.
- Experience managing IT inventory or automating IT operations will be viewed favourably; strong price negotiation or procurement skills are also appreciated.
