Database Administrator, Financial Services

A leading financial services organisation in Hong Kong is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to manage and optimise enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.

This role manages and optimises enterprise databases across on-premises and cloud environments, combining hands-on administration with leadership. It ensures system availability, performance, and security, oversees daily operations, drives improvements (including cloud adoption), and collaborates with cross-functional teams to meet business and compliance needs.

Key responsibilities:

As a Database Administrator – Financial Services, you will oversee mission-critical data systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance.

• Oversee daily database operations (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2), ensuring availability, performance, capacity planning, backup, and disaster recovery
• Manage upgrades, patching, monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis to maintain reliable operations
• Enforce security and compliance standards, including access controls, encryption, audits, and remediation of findings
• Support change and release processes, collaborating with teams on database design, deployments, and performance optimisation
• Lead modernisation initiatives, including cloud adoption, automation, standards development, and mentoring of database teams

Candidate profile:

To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive experience managing complex database systems within regulated industries like financial services.

• 5+ years of database experience, preferably within Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance (BFSI)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field
• Certifications (AWS, Oracle, Microsoft) and scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Shell, Python) are a plus
• Strong hands-on expertise in enterprise databases (Oracle and/or SQL Server)
• Proven experience in high-availability and disaster recovery architectures
• Knowledge of regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements; cloud database exposure is an advantage
