A well‑established and reputable organisation in Hong Kong, is seeking a seasoned Chief Legal Officer to lead its legal function. This role will oversee all legal, governance, compliance, and regulatory matters, acting as a trusted advisor to senior management and the Board. The successful candidate will combine strong legal judgement with sound commercial acumen and the ability to operate in a regulated, stakeholder‑rich environment.

This is a confidential search for a senior legal leader who is comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.

Detailed Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the organisation’s legal function, providing high‑quality legal advice across all business activities
  • Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior management and the Board on governance, regulatory, and risk‑related matters
  • Oversee all corporate governance matters, including Board and committee support where applicable
  • Manage legal risk, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and statutory requirements
  • Advise on contracts, procurement, property‑related matters, disputes, and external counsel management
  • Liaise with regulators, government bodies, and external stakeholders on legal and compliance issues
  • Develop and implement legal policies, frameworks, and internal controls to support organisational objectives
  • Lead, mentor, and develop internal legal team members (where applicable)
  • Support major strategic initiatives, transactions, and projects from a legal and risk perspective

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with solid post‑qualification experience, ideally gained from both private practice and in‑house roles
  • Proven experience in leading legal, governance, or compliance functions within complex or regulated organisations
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory frameworks, and risk management
  • Demonstrated ability to operate confidently at Board and senior management level
  • Sound commercial judgement with a pragmatic and solutions‑oriented approach
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
