Associate Director, Data Governance
Lead the design and execution of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, policies, and operating models. Establish data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, and data quality standards while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Partner across business, technology, risk, and compliance teams, manage governance councils, and drive data governance maturity.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise data governance strategies, frameworks, policies, and standards.
- Establish and maintain data ownership, stewardship, and accountability practices across key business functions.
- Drive initiatives that improve data quality, consistency, integrity, and accessibility across the organization.
- Oversee metadata, data catalog, business glossary, and data lineage management activities to enhance transparency and control.
- Facilitate governance forums and cross-functional working groups to support effective decision-making and issue resolution.
- Monitor and report on governance metrics, risks, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with business, technology, analytics, risk, and control teams to embed governance principles into operational processes.
- Support the implementation of data-related controls and governance practices aligned with internal policies and external requirements.
- Promote data literacy, governance awareness, and organizational adoption of best practices.
- Drive the ongoing evolution and maturity of enterprise data management capabilities.
Job Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Risk, Information Management, or related fields.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and operating models.
- Strong understanding of data quality management, metadata management, data lineage, data cataloging, and master/reference data concepts.
- Experience establishing data ownership frameworks, stewardship models, and governance processes.
- Knowledge of risk management, compliance, and control frameworks within complex organizational environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in highly regulated or data-intensive industries is advantageous.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; industry certifications in Data Management, Governance, Risk, or related areas are preferred.
