Role Overview

The Operations Manager oversees daily operations of a complex processing plant, managing processes, systems, and staff. Reports to the Joint Venture Management Board.

The plant handles:

• Waste reception and registration

• Initial waste treatment to remove contaminants and prepare substrate

• Anaerobic digestion, biogas production, and collection

• Digestate separation into solid and liquid fractions

• Conversion of solid digestate into pelletized fertilizer

• Liquid fraction treatment for sewer discharge

• Biogas storage, cleaning, and conversion to electricity via CHP

• Air treatment to manage odorous and contaminated air

The Operations Manager leads a diverse team, including Process Managers, Operators, Maintenance Engineers, Environmental Monitoring Manager, Safety Manager, Lab Technician, External Relationship Manager, and Admin staff (Finance, HR, Contract Vehicle Drivers).

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise daily plant operations to optimize processes and revenue

• Manage direct reports, ensuring effective team performance

• Lead and motivate the team

• Oversee Health & Safety across the plant

• Serve as primary contact with EPD, managing contract and performance reporting

• Provide operational reports to the Management Board

• Coordinate with the UK Management team for seamless delivery

• Ensure robust office processes for Finance and HR

Qualifications & Experience

• Engineering or Science degree and/or membership in a relevant Engineering Institute

• Fluent in English and Cantonese, with strong written skills in both

• Minimum 5 years’ experience operating and maintaining a plant

• Minimum 5 years’ managing diverse teams

• Proven delivery-focused approach

• Strong drive to maximize revenue

• Excellent process plant operation and maintenance skills
