Laboratory Manager
A leading engineering organisation seeks a Laboratory Manager in Hong Kong to lead building diagnostics and non-destructive testing operations, driving quality, compliance, and technical excellence.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end laboratory and site operations for building diagnostics and non-destructive testing, ensuring high-quality service delivery, operational efficiency, and successful project execution
- Provide technical leadership by overseeing testing methodologies, approving complex test results and reports, resolving technical challenges, and maintaining compliance with industry standards
- Drive operational excellence through effective planning, resource optimisation, budget management, KPI monitoring, and continuous process improvement across laboratory and field operations
- Develop and lead a multidisciplinary team by defining competency standards, overseeing training, and fostering a high-performance, safety-focused culture
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while managing laboratory assets, supporting audits, engaging clients and stakeholders, and contributing to business development initiatives
Candidate profile:
- Degree in Engineering (Materials, Civil, Mechanical, or related discipline) with at least 10 years of relevant laboratory or non-destructive testing (NDT) experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Strong knowledge of building diagnostics or NDT methodologies, laboratory testing standards, and technical reporting, with the ability to lead complex testing, analysis, and quality assurance activities
- HOKLAS Approved Signatory status is essential—Concrete Diagnostic Testing (including Infrared Thermography) for Building Diagnostics, or Welds (NDT) with Certified NDT Level III qualifications (e.g. RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) for NDT specialisation
- Experience in construction materials testing is preferred for Building Diagnostics, while exposure to power plants, aerospace turbines, or engine maintenance environments is highly valued for NDT specialists
- Proven leadership, team development, quality and regulatory compliance, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, cost control, and strong problem-solving and communication skills
