Senior System Analyst (Trading) - Java, Python, Linux
A major financial services organization is looking for an experienced Senior System Analyst to join its technology team supporting business-critical derivatives and trade platforms.
The position covers the full application lifecycle, from business and technical analysis through development, testing, implementation, and ongoing system support. Working within a complex and high-volume technology environment, the successful candidate will contribute directly to software development while coordinating closely with business users, technology teams, and other delivery stakeholders.
This opportunity is particularly suitable for a senior Java professional with strong Linux experience, solid troubleshooting skills, and previous exposure to large-scale financial systems. Knowledge of derivatives, collateral management, financial messaging, or risk calculation platforms would be highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver application enhancement and system implementation initiatives from initial requirements assessment through production rollout.
- Analyse business and technical requirements, estimate development effort, and recommend practical implementation approaches.
- Develop and enhance enterprise applications supporting derivatives processing, position management, collateral operations, and associated functions.
- Produce reliable and maintainable software using Java within a Linux-based environment.
- Prepare technical designs, program specifications, test scenarios, implementation procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Perform functional, integration, and system testing to ensure application changes meet business and technical requirements.
- Diagnose software defects and production incidents, identify root causes, and implement effective technical solutions.
- Review application designs and source code to improve software quality, maintainability, stability, and performance.
- Develop and maintain integrations with internal and external systems through APIs, databases, messaging interfaces, and financial connectivity protocols.
- Work closely with development, testing, infrastructure, operations, and business teams during project delivery and incident resolution.
- Support the modernization of applications through microservices, containers, cloud platforms, and other contemporary engineering practices.
- Assist with production releases, post-implementation verification, and system stability monitoring.
- Participate in scheduled production support outside standard office hours, including occasional overnight, weekend, or public holiday coverage.
- Take ownership of additional system development or technology improvement initiatives when required.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in software engineering or enterprise application development.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale, high-availability, or business-critical technology platforms.
- Strong hands-on programming capability in Java.
- Solid practical experience working with Linux operating environments.
- Knowledge of Python, Perl, SQL, or Shell scripting would be beneficial.
- Experience building web-based applications and integrating systems through REST APIs.
- Good understanding of relational databases, data processing, and application integration.
- Familiarity with FIX protocol or comparable financial messaging technologies would be advantageous.
- Exposure to microservices, containers, distributed application architecture, or cloud platforms would be beneficial.
- Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, documentation, and operational support.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical and production issues independently.
- Experience within banking, securities, exchanges, clearing, asset management, or another financial services environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of derivatives processing, collateral management, position management, or risk platforms would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with risk calculation methodologies such as SPAN or Value at Risk would be beneficial.
- Ability to perform technical design reviews and code reviews while promoting sound software engineering practices.
- Capable of working independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional technology team.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Willingness to participate in a rostered production support arrangement when required.
