Senior Data Engineer - Global Financial Services

A global financial services organisation seeks a Senior Data Engineer in Hong Kong to build reliable data pipelines and drive analytics and operational decision-making.

Key responsibilities:

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead the development and optimisation of reliable, secure data pipelines to support business insights and operational decision-making.

• Build and maintain end-to-end batch and streaming data pipelines, covering data ingestion, transformation, validation, and publication
• Develop reusable data transformation patterns and curated datasets to support analytics and operational needs
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into production-ready data solutions, from design and testing to deployment and support
• Ensure data reliability through quality checks, reconciliations, monitoring, alerting, and effective documentation of data definitions and runbooks
• Optimise query performance, dataset partitioning, and cloud computing resources to improve efficiency and reduce costs
• Troubleshoot production issues through root cause analysis and permanent fixes, collaborate with upstream and downstream teams to improve data interfaces, and enforce security, access controls, governance, and auditability for sensitive data

Candidate profile:

• 3–8 years’ hands-on experience delivering robust data engineering solutions in complex environments
• Advanced Java proficiency and strong SQL capabilities; Python experience is highly desirable
• Practical experience with Spark, Airflow, or equivalent orchestration platforms
• Familiarity with Kafka, PubSub, or other streaming/event platforms, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly
• Strong engineering practices in Git, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud data platforms and lake, lakehouse, or warehouse architectures
