About the Role

My client is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Head of Modern Trade to lead their sales and distribution strategy across organized retail channels. This is a pivotal leadership position for a fast-growing, fun, and on-trend premium FMCG business. You will own relationships with key modern trade accounts and drive significant growth by ensuring our exciting range of international snacks, beverages, wellness, and lifestyle products are prominently featured and performing strongly in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Modern Trade strategy to maximize sales, visibility, and market share across supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacy chains, and other organized retail formats in Hong Kong.
  • Build, nurture, and grow strategic relationships with senior buyers, category managers, and procurement teams at major retail groups.
  • Negotiate favorable listings, promotional calendars, space allocations, and commercial terms to drive velocity and brand presence.
  • Lead key account management, including business reviews, joint business planning, and performance tracking.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, brand management, and supply chain teams to deliver impactful in-store activations, launches, and category initiatives.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and channel dynamics to identify opportunities and optimize our portfolio performance.
  • Manage and deliver against ambitious revenue, margin, and distribution targets.
  • Build and lead a high-performing Modern Trade sales team, fostering a collaborative, results-oriented, and energetic culture.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the broader commercial team (including Corporate Sales & Partnerships) to ensure seamless alignment across channels.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of proven experience in Modern Trade / Key Account Management within FMCG, preferably in premium snacks, beverages, wellness, or lifestyle categories.
  • Strong existing network and track record of success with major retailers in Hong Kong and the region.
  • Deep understanding of modern trade dynamics, category management, trade marketing, and shopper behavior.
  • Excellent negotiation and commercial skills with a proven ability to secure prime shelf space and high-impact promotions.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and forecasting capabilities.
  • Passionate, energetic leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Fluency in English and Cantonese (Mandarin is a strong plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related discipline; MBA preferred
