The challenge
As part of their ongoing digital transformation, our client needed to build a robust data and digital capability by hiring niche talent in Machine Learning (ML) and Business Analysis (BA). However, they faced several challenges:
ML talent is highly niche, and the client was working with tight budget limitations, making it difficult to attract top-tier candidates. BA roles required specific domain knowledge, short notice periods, and were project-based contracts without renewal, which made them less attractive to potential candidates.
The solution
We conducted a comprehensive market mapping exercise across insurers, providing accurate salary benchmarks and insights into talent availability. This included comparisons with candidates outside Hong Kong to expand the talent pool. Leveraging our extensive network, we successfully sourced a strong ML Ops candidate from a consulting firm who met both technical requirements and budget constraints.
For BA roles, we tapped into our specialised database of insurance professionals and gained referrals from contractors we had previously placed within the sector. This allowed us to quickly identify high-quality candidates with relevant domain expertise.
