Save job

A leading media and entertainment company seeks a Senior Legal Counsel in Hong Kong to provide strategic end-to-end legal support across commercial, content and IP matters, mitigating risk and enabling business growth.

Position overview:

The Senior Legal Counsel serves as a key commercial and intellectual property advisor, responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex agreements across advertising, sponsorships, content production, and IP licensing. Reporting to the Legal Director/General Counsel, this hands-on role provides end-to-end legal support and commercial advice to internal business stakeholders while managing legal risks across production workflows and media clearance.

The ideal candidate blends robust technical legal capability with business-oriented problem-solving and acts as the primary liaison with external counsel and key commercial partners.

Key responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including licensing, product, distribution, and marketing-related agreements
  • Serve as primary legal counsel to stakeholders on product development compliance, commercial agreements, production service contracts, and co-production frameworks
  • Oversee rights management and clearance workflows, ensuring all marketing content complies with third-party rights, copyright laws, trademark guidelines, and local advertising regulations
  • Proactively provide legal advice to internal commercial, marketing, and operational teams to navigate legal risks while achieving business objectives
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and regulatory bodies, effectively directing external legal spend and ensuring high-quality advice on complex matters
  • Track evolving legal developments in IP, advertising standards, consumer protection, and digital media to update internal templates, policies, and risk-management protocols

Candidate profile:

  • Qualified lawyer with 4–6 years' post-qualification experience; candidates with less experience will be considered for the Legal Counsel title
  • Solid hands-on experience in copyright law, IP licensing, marketing, product development, content production, and media/entertainment commercial contracts
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the executive presence to communicate complex legal advice clearly to non-legal business leaders
  • Agile, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to balance legal risk with commercial realities in a fast-paced business environment
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is highly preferred
  • Regional exposure is an advantage
