Legal counsel, VP - regional bank

A global banking institution is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:

To provide legal support to the Hong Kong Branch by advising on legal and documentation matters, supporting transactions and business initiatives, managing legal and documentation risks, and assisting business and support functions from a legal perspective under appropriate supervision.

• Provide legal advice to the Branch on all matters/transactions;

• Prepare/review legal documentation for use in the Bank's day-to-day business (including but not limited to, general plain vanilla and/or structured lending products, securities/collateral related arrangements, structured trade finance, cash management, asset-based lending, acquisition finance, derivatives, debt capital markets products and service contracts);

• Liaise with external counsels to obtain legal advice, review their legal documentation and advice, and manage transactions or projects involving external counsels;

• Develop policies and procedures to help the Bank manage legal and documentation risks, and advise on the Bank’s business initiatives;

• Provide relevant internal training including managing external lawyers for the same purpose;

• Render support to the Head Office and other branches of the Bank regarding matters of the laws of the Hong Kong SAR;

• Escalate complex, material or non-standard legal issues; and

• Ad hoc duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Qualified Hong Kong solicitor with minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience from top international law firms, preferably from banking / finance departments, in house experience with large financial institutions is highly desirable;

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to learn new things and take up new challenges;

• Good understanding of regulatory requirements/matters applicable to the Branch;

• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese languages; and

• Independent, resilient, trustworthy, team-oriented, proactive, responsive and practical-minded.
