Senior Investment Analyst - Hedge Fund

Save job

A newly established hedge fund seeks a Senior Investment Analyst in Hong Kong to drive US equity investment decisions, shaping its quantamental strategy and growth.

Role:

This is a fundamental equity research and investment role at a newly established hedge fund in Hong Kong pursuing an SFC Type 9 license. The firm operates a quantamental strategy combining fundamental research with systematic quantitative methods, focused on US equities.

Investment decisions are made collectively by a small senior team. Beyond research, the hire will also work closely with the quantitative analyst to integrate fundamental observations into the firm's proprietary models and portfolio construction process.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on US equities across multiple sectors, including financial modelling, valuation, and industry analysis
  • Monitor and analyse macroeconomic developments, monetary and fiscal policy, and their potential impact on portfolio positioning and sector allocation
  • Generate and present investment ideas with clear thesis, valuation framework, and risk assessment
  • Contribute to portfolio construction, position sizing, and sector allocation decisions on a consensus basis
  • Provide fundamental input into the firm’s proprietary factor models and systematic research process
  • Collaborate closely with the quantitative team to integrate fundamental observations into systematic frameworks
  • Participate in the investment decision-making process as a core team member
  • Serve as Responsible Officer (RO) under SFC Type 9 regulated activities
  • Support investor communication and due diligence processes as needed

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a globally recognised university in finance, economics, accounting, or a related discipline; advanced degree a plus but not required
  • Minimum 6 years’ buy-side experience at a reputable asset manager or hedge fund, with a substantive SFC Licensed Representative record under Type 9 (Asset Management). Total work experience: 6–15 years
  • Genuine involvement in the investment decision-making process — not purely research support. Must have actively generated and presented ideas that were considered or executed with client capital
  • At least 2 years’ direct management experience, including supervision of junior team members, to support RO eligibility
  • Strong research skills — top-down and bottom-up analysis, financial modelling, valuation, industry research
  • Data-driven mindset with strong numerical intuition; quantitative skills or a quantamental orientation is a plus but not essential — the firm has dedicated quantitative resources
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate investment ideas clearly in fluent English (critical — the firm covers US equities and communicates with global stakeholders). Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is a plus
  • CFA designation is a plus; MBA or other graduate degree is a plus but not required
  • Self-starter and strong team player who takes ownership of work, collaborates effectively in a small team
  • Passionate about investing, detail-oriented, and well-organised. Strong academic record preferred (GPA, standardised test scores)
  • Earlier sell-side experience is acceptable, but does not count toward the buy-side experience requirement
