Seeking a qualified finance leader with proven China operations experience, strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, and the ability to engage effectively with JV partners, senior executives, regulators, and local government authorities.

About the Company

Our client is a leading multinational engineering group with a strong presence across Asia. As part of its continued expansion, the company is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a strategic joint venture operation in China and partner closely with both local and international stakeholders to drive business performance and growth.

The Role

Reporting to senior regional leadership, the Head of Finance will be responsible for overseeing all finance activities for the China JV, providing strategic financial leadership while acting as a trusted advisor to local management, JV partners, government authorities, and regional headquarters.
The successful candidate will possess strong commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management capabilities, and extensive experience operating within the China business environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead the overall finance function for the China joint venture, ensuring strong financial governance and operational excellence.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, management reporting, and performance analysis.
  • Drive financial strategies that support the company's business objectives and long-term growth plans.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, accounting standards, tax requirements, and corporate policies.

Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key finance business partner to the General Manager, JV board members, and senior leadership team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with JV partners and key external stakeholders.
  • Influence strategic decision-making through financial insights and commercial recommendations.
  • Provide leadership and support in negotiations, investment decisions, and business expansion initiatives.

Government & External Relations

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant local government authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Support the business in navigating regulatory requirements and government-related matters.
  • Represent the finance function in discussions with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, tax authorities, and advisors.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee treasury, cash flow management, tax planning, working capital, and risk management.
  • Ensure robust internal controls, governance frameworks, and compliance standards are maintained.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the local finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior finance leadership roles.
  • Proven experience managing finance operations within Mainland China.
  • Strong experience supporting joint venture structures and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated success in managing relationships with local government authorities, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance strategic and operational priorities.
  • Experience within engineering, infrastructure, construction, industrial, energy, or project-driven sectors is highly preferred.
  • Fluent English and Chinese required.
