Before recruitment, I worked at a financial printer, serving clients in the financial services sector. With an educational background in accounting and finance, I knew I wanted to stay connected to the industry, but instead of pursuing exams or certifications, I wanted something different — something that would help me grow personally and professionally.
I’ve always been a shy person, and recruitment felt like the right challenge. I wanted to meet more people, build meaningful relationships and develop confidence in myself. When I came across Robert Walters, I saw an opportunity to do all of that, on a bigger and better platform. The company’s global reputation and the energy from its charismatic leaders immediately stood out to me from day one.
Finding my place in a collaborative culture
Over the past four years, I’ve come to appreciate the collaborative culture and strong support system here.
The size of the firm allows consultants like me to specialise deeply in our markets, enabling us to develop our expertise and build credibility when working with clients and candidates. Over the years, I’ve grown as a specialist — from focusing primarily on compliance roles to expanding my scope to cover legal positions as well.
Teamwork is another aspect that makes a big difference here. Colleagues across different teams often share roles and collaborate closely, which makes business development more efficient and effective. The people make all the difference
I joined Robert Walters during a challenging time — when COVID-19 had shifted work dynamics and limited in-person interactions. Despite that, my team went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Their support helped me settle in quickly, and the friendships I’ve built here go beyond work. We often hang out after hours, and I genuinely enjoy spending time with my colleagues. The people here are genuinely kind and supportive, and their kindness has left a lasting impression on me.
It’s the people that really matter — they’re what make this experience so special.
Growing through new challenges
One moment that stands out for me was placing a candidate in a role outside my usual specialty market. Even though I wasn’t familiar with the role initially, finding the right candidate felt so rewarding. It reminded me why this work matters so much - it’s about making real connections and helping people find the right fit.
Over the years, I’ve grown not only as a recruiter but also as a specialist in legal & compliance roles within financial services. My promotion from senior consultant to principal was a proud moment. It reflects not only my hard work, but also the incredible support I’ve received from managers along the way.
For me, success isn’t just about promotions or placements; it’s about building genuine relationships that last. There’s nothing more satisfying than fostering connections with clients and candidates alike.
When clients come back to you for key roles, it’s a sign that they trust you and value your expertise, and that is the most fulfilling part of the job
Looking back, I feel grateful for how far I’ve come. Recruitment has not only shaped my career but also transformed my confidence and ability to connect with others. These are skills I’ll carry with me for life.
