Strategy Planning Lead (Media)

Save job

A well-established media company with strong presence in Hong Kong is now looking to hire a Strategy Planning Lead to serve as internal strategy lead and catalyst for transformation. This is not a traditional planning role — it is a high-impact, hands-on position that functions like an internal consultant. You will diagnose the business, analyse data, challenge the status quo, and drive the strategic initiatives needed to reverse losses and reposition the company for long-term success.

You will work closely with the senior leadership team to identify growth opportunities, redefine brand positioning, and lead change across the organisation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of the company’s overall strategy and transformation roadmap
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis (financial, operational, market, audience, and competitive) to identify root causes of performance issues and recommend clear, actionable paths forward
  • Act as a catalyst for change — challenge existing mindsets, persuade management on strategic priorities, and secure buy-in for bold decisions
  • Drive end-to-end change management initiatives, including organisational restructuring, new business models, and operational improvements
  • Redefine brand positioning and portfolio strategy to better align with evolving market demands and revenue opportunities
  • Identify and lead high-priority strategic projects (new revenue streams, digital transformation, partnerships, M&A evaluation, cost optimisation, etc.)
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and ensure strategy is translated into executable plans with measurable outcomes
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and internal KPIs to provide ongoing strategic counsel to the leadership team
  • Build and maintain a robust strategy framework, including scenario planning, financial modelling, and performance tracking

Requirements & qualifications:

  • 18+ years of strategy and transformation experience, and in-house strategy/leadership roles
  • Proven track record in turnaround or business transformation environments, preferably within media, publishing, or content-driven industries
  • Strong data-driven mindset with excellent analytical, financial modelling, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade senior executives and drive change in complex organisations
  • Experience in brand repositioning, new revenue model development, and digital transformation
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills — able to present complex ideas clearly and convincingly
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with high autonomy
