Business Development Director - Bunker
A leading organisation in the marine fuel and bunkering sector is seeking a Business Development Director to drive strategic growth across Asia Pacific and selected global markets.
What you'll do:
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategies aimed at significantly expanding the bunker sales network throughout major Asia Pacific ports as well as select global markets.
- Identify new business prospects by acquiring ship owners, operators, managers, traders, and end-users, nurturing these relationships into long-term partnerships.
- Lead high-value negotiations for bunker supply contracts including spot deals, term agreements, and biofuel-inclusive transactions to maximise commercial outcomes.
- Utilise your industry expertise to position the organisation as the preferred partner for bunkering services across container, tanker, bulk, offshore segments and more.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams such as trading, operations, finance, and sustainability to ensure seamless delivery of services and optimal customer satisfaction.
- Monitor evolving market trends, competitor activities, regulatory changes (including IMO regulations, EU ETS requirements, FuelEU Maritime policies), and biofuel adoption rates to identify emerging business opportunities.
- Represent the organisation at prominent industry events, conferences, and client meetings to enhance brand visibility and generate valuable leads for future growth.
- Achieve ambitious annual sales volume targets as well as profitability objectives through effective relationship management and strategic deal-making.
What you bring:
- Over ten years of proven experience in bunker trading or marine fuel sales roles within the bunkering, shipping or oil trading sectors is essential for this position.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully building expansive customer networks and closing large-volume bunker contracts with ship owners or traders.
- Strong existing relationships with ship owners, operators, charterers or bunker traders across Asia Pacific; additional global contacts would be highly beneficial.
- Comprehensive understanding of marine fuel specifications including pricing mechanisms, credit management practices, risk assessment protocols and physical supply chain logistics.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current sustainability trends such as biofuels (LSFO/VLSFO) along with relevant regulatory frameworks impacting maritime commerce.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Business Administration, Maritime Studies, Economics or Engineering is preferred for this senior-level appointment.
- Excellent command of English language skills both written and spoken is required; proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese would be advantageous for regional engagement.
- Strategic mindset complemented by advanced negotiation abilities plus strong communication skills that foster trust-based relationships with clients and partners.
- Results-oriented approach combined with self-motivation; ability to thrive within performance-driven environments where teamwork is valued.
