Commodity Operator - Oil & Energy
This role offers you the chance to work at the heart of global crude and LNG trading, where your attention to detail and collaborative approach will be highly valued. You will play a pivotal part in ensuring contract fulfilment, optimising commercial deals, and maintaining compliance with state-owned enterprise standards.
What you'll do:
- Fulfil contract and charter party obligations by adding value through commercial and logistical deal options while proactively resolving issues in alignment with trader's needs, compliance standards, and state-owned asset protection rules.
- Identify optimisation opportunities within spot contracts and respond flexibly to contractual challenges such as off-spec cargoes or vessel delays to safeguard the company’s trading interests and market reputation.
- Liaise regularly with oil and freight partners, terminals, vessel operators, local agents, and inspectors to manage post-deal activities efficiently while ensuring critical information is shared promptly and all documentation meets compliance requirements.
- Handle oil and vessel nominations by coordinating closely with the compliance team to verify vendors and maintain operational integrity throughout the process.
- Input oil and freight data into trading systems and compliance platforms in a timely manner to ensure accurate trading positions are maintained while keeping comprehensive records for legal, fiscal, and audit purposes.
- Understand the commercial impact of cargo claims or demur-rage disputes by taking appropriate actions that protect the company’s interests in these matters.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail by reconciling cargo volumes with third parties, confirming quantity agreements, and addressing inquiries related to payment terms, quality contracts, or trading settlement approvals.
What you bring:
- Previous experience in oil or freight operations is preferred; familiarity with state-owned enterprise processes would be advantageous for understanding compliance requirements.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances while maintaining composure under pressure; strong task prioritisation skills are essential for managing multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Teamwork skills are vital as you will collaborate closely with colleagues across departments as well as external partners involved in trading operations.
- Knowledge of crude or LNG pricing mechanisms along with an understanding of market dynamics is desirable for making informed decisions during contract execution.
- Excellent communication abilities are required for stakeholder management; you should be able to convey complex information clearly both internally and externally.
- Organisational skills are important for managing documentation accurately; commercial acumen will help you identify optimisation opportunities within contracts.
- A proactive attitude towards expanding your knowledge of crude/LNG trading processes; willingness to optimise workflows and participate in operational improvement projects led by state-owned enterprises.
