Senior Regional Merchandising Director (Apparel)

Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with clients to understand their unique business requirements, market positioning, product expectations and overall management of sourcing & merchandising functions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the complete merchandising cycle for apparel products, overseeing every stage from product development through to shipment delivery while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Keep close client relationships, analyse client businesses thoroughly by understanding their market position, price brackets, product range, merchandising culture, production approach, and work style.
  • Create, integrate, and manage practical sourcing philosophies that align with customer quality expectations and company objectives.
  • Lead a dedicated team to deliver effective service tailored to client needs while motivating them towards achieving organisational goals and exploring new business opportunities.
  • Assess supplier and vendor capabilities in supporting production requirements from both quality and cost perspectives, ensuring optimal partnerships are established.
  • Collaborate proactively with factories and technical teams to guarantee garment quality meets or exceeds client specifications at every stage of production.
  • Oversee team development by fostering strong relationships with clients and managing their expectations throughout the merchandising process.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal departments as well as external parties such as vendors and suppliers to achieve timely development schedules and on-time deliveries.
  • Support the implementation of sourcing strategies that contribute directly to business growth while continuously exploring new vendors or suppliers to meet evolving needs.
  • Review overall factory performance regularly, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes that enhance daily operations or introduce new processes for greater cost efficiency.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Textile, Clothing or a related discipline is required for this position.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ proven experience in the garment field is essential. Experience with the USA market is a must.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing offshore vendors effectively within complex supply chains.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities combined with people management skills that foster a collaborative team environment focused on shared success.
  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships as a trusted adviser to both leadership teams and customers.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills paired with excellent time management capabilities are crucial for meeting deadlines and resolving challenges efficiently.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English as well as Chinese (including Mandarin) is necessary for effective communication across diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is expected for daily operational tasks.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional business travel as required by project demands.
