A prestigious Asia-focused investment platform is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their highly respected legal team in Hong Kong.

What you'll do:

As Legal Counsel Director, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for managing complex legal matters that underpin the success of this leading investment platform. Your day-to-day activities will involve reviewing intricate trading documents, negotiating commercial contracts, advising senior stakeholders on strategic decisions, and playing an integral part in shaping new business ventures. You will work closely with talented colleagues across multiple disciplines, ensuring that all legal processes are robustly managed while contributing positively to the company’s inclusive culture. Your ability to communicate clearly, pay meticulous attention to detail, and share your expertise will help drive operational excellence while supporting both individual growth and collective achievement.

  • Review and negotiate trading and financing documentation to ensure all agreements align with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate general commercial contracts across various departments within the firm, maintaining accuracy and compliance at all times.
  • Provide clear and practical legal advice to key stakeholders throughout the group on a wide range of matters impacting the business.
  • Participate actively in the company’s continued business expansion by supporting new initiatives with sound legal guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across different teams to address complex legal issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Support the implementation of best practices in contract management, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance throughout the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development of internal policies by offering insights based on current market trends and legal developments.
  • Engage with external counsel when necessary to manage specialised matters or cross-jurisdictional issues.
  • Assist in training junior team members by sharing your knowledge of financial markets law and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

What you bring:

  • Possess a Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited university, coupled with a professional legal qualification from a common law jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrate 7+ years of post-qualification experience within financial services environments such as investment banks or hedge funds.
  • Showcase technical knowledge of prime brokerage arrangements, equity derivatives transactions, and APAC market structure regulations.
  • Exhibit outstanding drafting skills for complex agreements, along with proven negotiation abilities that reflect sensitivity to stakeholder needs.
  • Display excellent organisational skills combined with acute attention to detail when managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Bring familiarity with employment law principles relevant to financial institutions operating in Asia-Pacific jurisdictions.
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills enabling you to build trust-based relationships across diverse teams.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Mandarin or Cantonese would be advantageous for engaging with regional partners.
