AML Compliance, AVP (Corporate Bank)
An international corporate bank in Hong Kong is seeking an AML compliance professional to join their AML team. This Assistant Vice President position focuses on AML/CFT and sanctions advisory, controls, and monitoring, offering broad exposure across corporate banking businesses and close collaboration with senior compliance management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support compliance management in maintaining and enhancing AML/CFT and sanctions frameworks, ensuring internal controls align with group standards and regulatory expectations.
- Contribute to the design, review, and ongoing optimisation of AML/CFT and sanctions systems, including monitoring effectiveness and recommending control enhancements where necessary.
- Provide day-to-day compliance advice to business and control functions on AML/CFT and sanctions matters, including high-risk customer reviews, CDD/KYC queries, and PEP or adverse news risk assessments.
- Assist in transaction and relationship surveillance by reviewing internal disclosures and exception reports, escalating and preparing suspicious transaction reports (STRs) and other filings as appropriate.
- Perform testing and monitoring over AML/CFT and sanctions-related controls, processes, and systems, and support institutional risk assessments and other thematic reviews.
- Help maintain AML/CFT/sanctions policies and procedures, coordinate regulatory reporting and initiatives, and deliver or support staff training to promote strong financial crime risk awareness across the branch.
Requirements:
- Degree holder in Law, Accounting, Finance, Banking, or a related discipline, with recognised AML or sanctions qualifications (such as AAMLCP, CAMLP, CAMS or similar).
- Around 5–8 years of relevant experience in AML/CFT, sanctions, financial crime compliance or related investigation/risk functions within financial institutions, regulators, or law enforcement.
- Solid understanding of AML/CFT and sanctions regulations, market practices, and control measures, ideally gained in a commercial or corporate banking environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, able to work independently under pressure while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and judgement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, and confidence in dealing with stakeholders at different levels.
- Good PC skills and experience using AML/sanctions-related systems or tools, with readiness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
