Our client is seeking a highly experienced Trade Finance Lawyer to join their team in Hong Kong. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality legal support to the Trade business operating across North Asia. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the strategic growth of the Trade business, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and providing expert legal advice to mitigate risks. This position also involves direct and indirect management of a team of lawyers.

What you'll do:
As a Trade Finance Lawyer, your role will be integral to ensuring that consistently high-quality legal support is provided to our client's Trade business. You will be responsible for supporting the North Asia Trade bankers and senior management on a range of transactional, strategic, reputational and other legal matters. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying and mitigating any potential legal or reputational risks. You will also have the opportunity to lead a team of lawyers, fostering an environment of collaboration and consistent approach.
- Support the North Asia Trade bankers and senior management on transactional, strategic, reputational and other legal matters.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Trade lawyers across North Asia.
- Identify and mitigate legal and reputational risks of the North Asia Trade business.
- Coordinate and manage relationships between internal and external stakeholders, businesses and support functions.
- Assist with the preparation, negotiation and review of various legal documents.
- Provide pragmatic, commercially sound advice that aligns with company strategy.
- Promote consistency in approach by collaborating with lawyers globally and regionally.
- Provide legal input on local, regional and/or global legal projects.
What you bring:
As an experienced Trade Finance Lawyer, you bring extensive knowledge of trade finance transactions and legal issues. Your experience with complex trade finance transactions and Trade Products will be invaluable in this role. Your understanding of cross-border financing documentation, market practices, and processes will enable you to provide expert advice that is both legally sound and commercially pragmatic. Your strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and fluency in Mandarin are essential for this role.
- Qualified trade finance lawyer with minimum 12+ years PQE in relevant jurisdiction(s)
- Extensive knowledge of trade finance transactions and legal issues
- Experience with complex trade finance transactions and Trade Products, specifically focused on the North Asia market
- Understanding of cross-border financing documentation, market practices and processes
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively under time pressure
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Lateral thinking/problem-solving ability
- Mandarin language skills
