Chief Risk Officer

Our client, a leading corporate retail banking group, is looking for a Chief Risk Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the design and execution of the region’s overall risk management strategy, ensuring alignment with global risk frameworks and regulatory expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Regional CEO, Executive Committee, and Board Risk Committees.
  • Promote a strong and consistent risk culture across all business units and markets.

Credit, Market & Operational Risk Oversight

  • Oversee the full credit risk lifecycle for corporate, commercial, and retail portfolios.
  • Ensure robust monitoring and stress‑testing for market and liquidity risks.
  • Strengthen operational resilience, including cybersecurity, data protection, fraud risk, and business continuity planning.

Regulatory & Compliance Leadership

  • Act as the primary regional point of contact for key regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with regional regulatory requirements and group‑wide risk policies.
  • Anticipate evolving regulatory trends and guide the business in proactive adaptation.

Risk Framework & Analytics

  • Drive continuous enhancement of risk methodologies, models, and controls.
  • Leverage data analytics, early‑warning indicators, and predictive insights to support informed decision‑making.
  • Oversee risk reporting to local and regional regulators, group management, and the Board.

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing regional risk team.
  • Cultivate collaboration with business, finance, audit, and compliance stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in risk management within corporate or retail banking, with at least 5 years in a senior regional leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of credit, market, operational, regulatory, and enterprise risk frameworks.
  • Proven track record of engaging effectively with regulators and Boards.
  • Deep knowledge of regional banking regulations and market dynamics.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
