Group Finance Director – Leading Chinese Enterprise (HKD 2M+)

Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Location: Hong Kong

A prestigious Chinese organisation in Hong Kong is seeking a Group Finance Director to provide expert financial leadership and drive strategic initiatives across its diverse operations. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to join a respected business with significant regional and international presence, where your expertise will directly influence the company’s growth and success. You will be at the heart of financial decision-making, working closely with senior leaders and subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas markets. The role offers a unique platform to shape group-wide financial practices, ensure compliance with evolving regulations, and support ambitious business expansion plans. With a focus on collaboration, continuous improvement, and stakeholder engagement, this position promises both challenge and reward within a supportive environment that values professional development and knowledge sharing.

What you'll do:

As Group Finance Director, you will play an instrumental role in guiding the organisation’s overall financial direction by fostering collaboration between head office teams and subsidiaries across multiple regions.

  • Lead a team of finance professionals by overseeing accounting operations, settlement processes, system management, management reporting, business performance analysis, and strategic initiatives to ensure delivery of high-quality financial services.
  • Act as the key representative from the Head Office for all group finance matters, maintaining strong relationships with Group Finance teams in Mainland China and overseas while coordinating on group-level projects.
  • Collaborate closely with subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and other international locations to implement group initiatives effectively and maintain consistent financial practices across all entities.
  • Take ownership of management accounting activities including annual budgeting exercises and ongoing monitoring of financial performance across multiple subsidiaries.
  • Provide advisory support during budgeting and planning cycles for subsidiaries while recommending improvements in financial management practices to optimise results.
  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc financial analysis at the group level to inform business strategy and present actionable insights through comprehensive management information reports to senior leadership.
  • Ensure strict adherence to accounting standards, group policies, and regulatory requirements in both Hong Kong and Mainland China by staying updated on relevant changes in regulations.
  • Drive process re-engineering efforts by streamlining operational policies and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that enhance organisational efficiency.
  • Develop robust financial policies and procedures that promote effectiveness throughout the organisation while supporting business expansion strategies with sound financial advice.
  • Engage proactively with internal auditors, external accountants, lawyers, and other professionals to ensure full compliance with audit requirements; execute follow-up actions on audit findings to strengthen risk mitigation.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Group Finance Director position brings extensive experience from major corporations or top-tier accountancy firms where you have honed your technical expertise alongside your interpersonal skills.

  • Degree holder in Accounting, Finance or related discipline complemented by a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CPA or equivalent certification.
  • At least 18 years’ experience in financial management or accounting functions within Big Four firms or large corporations—including no less than 10 years at managerial level—demonstrating your capacity for dependable oversight.
  • Extensive background in finance operations within Chinese enterprises is highly desirable due to the cross-border nature of this role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of both Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (HKFRS) and PRC accounting standards ensures you can navigate complex regulatory environments confidently.
  • Exceptional analytical skills paired with meticulous attention to detail enable you to uphold accuracy while adhering strictly to established policies.
  • Proven track record coordinating with subsidiaries across different jurisdictions—especially Mainland China—and managing cross-border finance operations effectively.
  • Excellent communication abilities allow you to convey complex information clearly when presenting reports or engaging diverse audiences at all levels of seniority.
  • Strategic mindset demonstrated through previous involvement in supporting business expansion initiatives or driving improved financial performance within large organisations.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English as well as Chinese (Putonghua and Cantonese) is essential for effective collaboration across regional teams.

What sets this company apart:

This organisation stands out for its commitment to excellence across every facet of its operations—from robust governance structures through to its inclusive approach towards talent development. Employees benefit from exposure to international best practices thanks to frequent collaboration between teams based locally in Hong Kong as well as those situated abroad.
