Public sector workers sought-after by private sector
United Kingdom
The best public sector professionals will find work in the private sector, according to leading recruitment specialists Robert Walters.
With the government rumoured to be planning to cut up to 1m public sector jobs, there is considerable concern that many of these individuals will be left out in the cold. But the firm claims a number of those likely to be made redundant have skills that will be in demand in the private sector – and their talents can actually boost blue-chip and financial services firms.
Chris Hickey, Robert Walters’ UK Managing Director comments:
“A number of professionals working in the public sector have skills that are immediately transferable into private enterprise, where there is still a shortage of suitably qualified staff. If these professionals do make the move into the private sector, that can only be good for UK plc.”
“Throughout the year, we have seen increased demand for accountants and legal, HR, IT and secretarial and support professionals from both financial services firms and commercial organisations. So, there are plenty of opportunities for the right people. Those who focus on their transferable skills, and the difference that they have made in their previous positions are likely to secure roles.”
