UKs leading manufacturer and supplier of sunglasses and eyewear is looking to recruit a Hong Kong based professional with broad experience in supplier selection, manufacturing control and performance review covering suppliers based in the Far East.
The ideal candidate is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and English, and is well travelled in China. Reporting to the Supplier & Test Laboratory Manager based in the UK, your responsibilities will include:
helping with selection and providing feedback on potential new source factories for sunglasses, spectacle frames and optical accessory components and products
helping factories move their ethical trading status to meet ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) requirements and obtain satisfactory SMETA (SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit) audit status for both company and customer initiated audits
assisting factories, where necessary, in meeting suitable quality management system and operations status
providing assistance with the resolution of product design/development/manufacturing issues at both company and supplier ends
accompanying both customer and company representatives during factory visits in order to assist with sourcing, product manufacturing and sales negotiation activities.
Skills and Experience
The position requires an individual with ethical/quality auditing and manufacturing experience gained in a light engineering environment. Preferably, some experience in the eyewear industry.
The individual will have or be expected to quickly gain a sound understanding of the various manufacturing methods used to produce components for glasses and will be able to apply this knowledge to issues that arise in the tasks listed. As a guide some common knowledge in the following fields would be an advantage:
plastic moulding
metal forming, joining and machining
lens/prism manufacture and finishing
plating and vacuum deposition
silk screening and printing on various substrates
application of painted/varnished finishes
some knowledge of materials and component tolerance
handling, assembly, inspection and testing of optical/instrument assemblies
a sound understanding of manufacturing and distribution methodologies and systems within a busy business serving retail markets
